Robert “Bob” Carruthers ’62 has been a loyal Bradley supporter for years. Now, through a bequest in his will, Bob is ensuring that his legacy will continue to enhance the experiences of Bradley University students far into the future.
As a student, Bob promoted Bradley’s success by serving on the Interfraternity Council, the Student Senate, and as manager of the men’s basketball team, including the 1960 NIT-championship squad. Since graduating, Bob has remained dedicated to serving Bradley as a B-Club and Varsity Club board member and as the official timer and scorekeeper for Bradley men’s basketball.
Bob used his Bradley experience to launch a 43-year career in education as a teacher, principal, and human resources director. He says one of the greatest experiences of his life was serving as Homeless Director of Peoria County where he helped young people experiencing homelessness remain in school, often ultimately receiving college degrees. Bob was awarded the Lydia Moss Bradley Award in 2019, an award given to recognize outstanding commitment and service to Bradley University.
With his bequest, Bob is ensuring Bradley success will continue. As a career educator, Bob knows the life-changing importance of education. His bequest will keep his legacy of educational excellence alive, enhancing and improving the lives of Bradley students for generations.
Bob says he learned a lot about leadership and working with others while a student at Bradley. He urges fellow alumni to take stock of how Bradley helped them in their lives and how, with a planned gift, they can continue to support Bradley Braves well into the future.
